Linda Blair, who was just five years old in the year she was cast, had grown accustomed to being in the spotlight. At first, as a child model, then as an actor, she was selected for the part of Regan the possessed girl out of 600 candidates, for The Exorcist, (1973). Linda Blair rose quickly to fame, and she won an award called the Golden Globe. She was scheduled to be awarded the Academy Award. But when the news leaked out that a few roles were actually dubbed and a stunt-dummy was filmed for just eight seconds, the whole idea ended in a shambles. In the following years, she had no trouble securing leading roles in a variety of films, among them the highly successful television films Born Innocent (1974) (the number one TV show of that year) as well as Sarah T. - Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic (1975) in addition to her role in the Exorcist sequel Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977). In the end, she was forced by peers into buying cocaine when she was just of 18, it led to an arrest and subsequent sentencing to probation for three years. This highly-publicized drug bust led Linda to be blacklisted by Hollywood and her acting career was soon reduced to B-movies and occasional TV guest appearances.
